Artist Statement
“And there was evening, and there was morning.”
There is an intentional rhythm of life, in which good things (and very good things) are created, evaluated, sustained, enjoyed, and cared for.
Unfortunately, today we are all too familiar with tragic disruptions to this rhythm of design, creation, and stewardship.
For some, this might give cause for despair or hopelessness.
But for many, the disruption of how things were meant to be also brings a clear opportunity to bring help and hope to people in need. There’s an opportunity to move beyond “why?” to “what can I do?”
It is in the loving responses of people who were created to love, and the innovative problem-solving responses of people who were made in the very image of true creativity, by which hope is brought near in the midst of tragedy and suffering.
We would do well to love God completely, and love our neighbors sacrificially.
In the 21st Century, we all are neighbors.
I lived in Pakistan for four years, as a first grader and as a high schooler, and the experience gave me a deep appreciation for the people and culture. It’s a privilege to contribute some images to this “Artists for Pakistan” effort, to raise funds to help address short term and long term needs caused by the severe monsoon flooding of 2010.
These images are titled “morning” and evening,” in light of those first days. These are images of water, printed on metallic paper.
