The Show

Last spring, I had the privilege of putting together my first solo photo show, which was housed at at Covenant Theological Seminary. Here is a link to a slideshow of the show and the talk I gave at its opening.

Several months ago, I asked the good folk at Crave Coffeehouse whether I might exhibit some of my pictures in their shop, which is located in an active church building adjacent to the SLU medical campus which also serves as a venue for music, and they said yes. It is a pretty cool venue (the hours on this link are not correct).

My original Pied Beauty show employed Gerard Manley Hopkins’ poem by the same name as its major touchstone. It was my intention to have my next show employ the darker, yet still hopeful, Hopkins poem “God’s Grandeur.” Yet in discussions with the art curator, we determined that this would probably not be the best venue for that show (you will have to wait for the next show for that) . And, so, I set about creating Pied Beauty 1.5 with many images from my first show, but also with some new ones about which I am very excited.

The Scoop

This show does not have an official opening, but in compensation there are many more hours when it is available for viewing. And it will be up through the end of December. Crave serves Kaldi’s coffee and has some mouth-watering desserts and sandwichs. So, come on down.

Monday-Thursday: 6am-6pm

Friday: 6am-9pm

Saturday: 2pm-9pm, with worship every Saturday at 5:30pm

The Cause

I have decided to donate 100% of the proceeds (the gross profits for the framed prints and the net profit for any reprints) to a ministry for which I am the secretary (this bio needs updating). And, so, I know that it is a ministry run with extreme integrity and effectiveness. My friend Tim Randolph heads Randolph World Ministries by which he leads teams of people (including some of his students) in establishing and servicing health care clinics in Haiti to provide Haitians with many vital tests, including HIV and sickle cell tests. Here is a blurb by a writer for the St. Louis Business Journal, and some more words here. In a new venture, Tim recently contacted his supporters, who donated $4000 for hurricane relief, which beat the aid from the big agencies down to Haiti for immediate, much needed effect.

Tim is an accomplished Assistant Professor of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at Saint Louis’ University’s Doisy College of Health Sciences. Tim is also a strong Chrisitian committed to sharing the love of Christ in the nation of Haiti. If these goals sound interesting to you and you might want to consider joining one of his trips or contributing to the cause, he would love to hear from you.

The Goods

Well, the truth is that in my zeal to finish this show I printed and framed too many pieces to hang, by about four. If you are are in the St. Louis area, I would recommend going to see the pieces that are hanging. I, of course, think they are pretty cool, especially in that space. All of them, however, are for sale, with the details of each listed below.

In an effort to mirror the theme of “Pied” beauty, and simply because I love thrift stores, all of these frames were purchased there. Some of them are very high quality frames, some are more basic, and some have minor imperfections which are noted. The quality of the printing, however, is not thrifty and basic, but done with very high standards by Mark Florida of Gallery Framing @ Componere Gallery in the St. Louis Loop. And, so, the prices correspondingly might seem a rather pricey to some and a steal to others. I do think they happen to be pretty good deals, though, and not just because they are mine. All reprints are available beginning at $25 for an 11 X 14 and going up from there.

Please email me if you would like to purchase any of the framed prints below, or order an additional print of a framed print which has already sold. And let’s get some money to a good cause. Some of these would make great Christmas presents! However, you will have to wrap up a picture of the picture you are giving for Christmas itself, because the show runs through the end of December. I am not crazy about shipping prints, but if you are crazy about paying for it, I will do so gladly.
